- CE Session: New Roles
and Advances in Nuclear Pharmacy Practice
This session will
focus on newly approved radiopharmaceuticals and their role
in diagnostic imaging compared with agents that were
previously available. In addition, this session will review
the role of the nuclear pharmacist in the provision of
clinical pharmacy services. At the end of the session
participants will be able to: 1. Review the requirements of
OBRA '90 and its relevance to nuclear pharmacy. 2. List the
drug products and changes in pharmacy regulation that have
or will impact the clinical role of the nuclear pharmacist
in various practice settings. 3. Describe the increasing
impact of accreditation agencies on non-accredited entities
and their practitioners in nuclear pharmacy. 4. Identify
various clinical functions that nuclear pharmacy
practitioners can do now. 5. Tell the history of current WBC
labeling. 6. Evaluate the benefits of new
radiopharmaceuticals for imaging of infection.

- CE Session:
Review of Pediatric Nuclear Medicine
This session will
focus on the use of various nuclear medicine procedures in
the pediatric population. It includes general information on
common procedures performed in the pediatric population and
a review of dosing guidelines for pediatric patients.
Additionally, emphasis will be placed on the role of nuclear
medicine in pediatric oncology and the expanding role of PET
use in pediatric patients. At the end of the session
participants will be able to: 1. Identify the common nuclear
medicine procedures used in pediatric patients. 2. Discuss
appropriate dosing guidelines for radiopharmaceuticals
administered to pediatric patients. 3. Review the role of
nuclear medicine and radiopharmaceuticals in pediatric
oncology applications. 4. Highlight the expanding role of
PET imaging in a pediatric population.

for Nuclear Pharmacists
- Following a review of
radiation exposure, this session moves forward with a
discussion of medical dosimetry innovations and concludes
with a practical discussion of the regulations relating to
release criteria for radiopharmaceutical therapy patients.
At the end of the session participants will be able to: 1.
Describe the general concepts of biological radiation
responses as they apply to the use of radioactive 2. Discuss
new advances in medical dosimetry. 3. Review the regulatory
requirements that pertain to release of patients receiving
radioactivity for therapeutic applications. Supported by an

- CE Session: Drug
Interactions and Interventions in Nuclear Pharmacy Practice
Pharmacists will
review the causes of altered biodistribution of
radiopharmaceuticals, including drug interactions, patient
physiologic factors, and the use of interventional agents.
Traditional and PET radiopharmaceutical interactions will be
discussed. At the end of the session participants will be
able to: 1. Describe the significant
drug-radiopharmaceutical interactions. 2. Explain how drugs
are used as interventional agents to enhance nuclear
medicine procedures. 3. Explain how patient glucose levels
will affect F-18 FDG imaging. 4. Describe how the patient’s
physiologic factors will affect the imaging processes. 5.
List sources and references for drug-radiopharmaceutical
interaction
