 Natural uranium is primarily U-238 with less than 1% in the reactive U-235 form.  Enriched uranium is a kind of uranium in which the percent composition of U-235 has been increased through the process of isotope separation.

Dear Nuclear Medicine Professional,

The molydenum shortage has plagued nuclear medicine for a number of months.  The Society of Nuclear Medicine is collecting information about the impact of the shortage in a survey of nuclear pharmacists.  Your input is appreciated.  Mo-99 isn't the only thing in short supply. Cell Therapeutics has also been struggling with a shortage of cash. 
To conteract some woes that we are contantly hearing on the economic front, we have injected a little fun with Nuclear Millionaire.  Very timely, with last month's big Oscar winner, Slumdog Millionaire.
Covidien & B&W to Develop U.S. Source of Mo99
Earlier this year Covidien and Babcock and Wilcox announced an agreement to develop technology to produce Molybdenum-99 from low enriched uranium (LEU).  This is the initial step towards producing a large scale supply of Mo-99 in the U.S.  For additional information...
Imaging Prior Authorization in Budget
The White House has sent a budget to Congress that utilizes Radiology Benefit Managers to cut imaging spending.  MRI, CT, and other high-tech imaging procedures are the fastest growing component of physician services covered by Medicare, with two-thirds of the money Medicare paid for imaging was for scans in doctors' offices.   Imaging proponents have voiced criticisim to the budget initiatives.  For additional information...
Cell Therapeutics Sells Interest in Zevalin
Zevalin In regulatory filings, Zevalin manufacturer, Cell Therapeutics, stated that they had only enough operating capitol to last a few weeks.  (Click here for more information)  This prompted the company to sell 50% interest of Zevalin to Spectrum Pharmaceuticals and close their Italian drug-research facility.  View press release.
Mayo Clinic Experience with 797 Compliance
USP Chapter 797 Many nuclear pharmacies are struggling with implementing USP 797 standards for compounding sterile prearations.  The January 2009 Journal of Nuclear Medicine contained the article "Mayo Clinic Approaches to Meet United States harmacopeia ,797.
