New Radiation Symbol
A new symbol for radiation was  launched by the International Atomic Energy Agency and the International Organization for Standardization (ISO) to help reduce needless deaths and serious injuries from accidental exposure to large radioactive sources. It will serve as a supplementary warning to the trefoil, which has no intuitive meaning and little recognition beyond those educated in its significance.  For more information...
 
CMS Resends New Compliance Standards
The Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) has rescinded the new compliance standards for independent diagnostic testing facilities (IDTF's) which were scheduled to go into effect February 26th.  The new compliance standards, if implemented, would have placed new restrictions on the opening of new IDTF's and set new compliance standards for existing IDTF's.
 
Generic Sestamibi
DraxImage has submitted an Abbreviated New Drug Application (ANDA) to the FDA for its generic kit for the preparation of Tc-99m Sestamibi.  The patent for Cardiolite is expected to expire in 2008.

APhA 2007 Schedule of Nuclear Pharmacy Activities
Pharmacists from around the country will be meeting in Atlanta, March 16-19 for the APhA Annual Meeting.  The meeting will be one day shorter this year, so the traditional schedule of events has been changed from previous years.  Check out the large number of activities scheduled for nuclear pharmacists.

A 38 year old woman with multiple myeloma received a PET scan for restaging.  The patient had fever of unknown origin for one week and was hypoxemic.  Continued
