Pertechnetate
Technetium as the pertechnetate ion (TcO4-) is in the +7 valence state and has all seven of the outer shell electrons involved in covalent bonding.  This is the most stable of all valence states of technetium  in aqueous solution.  The single negative charge and the geometry of the compound - oxygens at the four corners of a tetrahedron - give it a charge and size similar to the iodide ion.  As a result the biodistribution of TcO4- is similar to I-.  It concentrates primarily in the thyroid, salivary glands, gastric mucosa and choroid plexus.  Nuclear Medicine: Technology and Techniques

USP Compounding Webinars
The United States Pharmacopeia (USP) has revised General Chapter <797> regarding requirements for sterile compounding. The revised chapter will become effective on June 1, 2008. USP is offering seven web-based educational seminars which will address the key topics covered by Chapter <797>. Additional information is available at: www.intellor.com/usp/797webinars.  

USP is also holding a 2-day workshop focused on the application of Chapter <797> in pharmacies and other health care settings. Additional information may be found at: http://www.usp.org/education/pe/courses/genChapter797.html.  
MICAD Database
The NIH Molecular Imaging and Contrast Agent Database is a program to foster research and development in molecular imaging by providing freely accessible online scientific information to the researchers in the field.  There are currently 421 agents in the MICAD database available at www.micad.nih.gov.
Covidien Receives Tentative Approval 
The FDA has granted tenative approval of Covidien's ANDA for its generic sestamibi kit.  Final approval is subject to the expiration of the Cardiolite patent on July 29, 2008.  View the press release...

DOT Training

Only $45
The Federal Aviation Administration continues to inspect nuclear pharmacies for required DOT training for companies shipping radioactive materials via air, including Federal Express.
